Ranch Photo Shoot

Ranch Photo Shoot

There is this really cool family, the Heckendorns, that lives a few miles further east of my family. They just so happen to live on a cattle ranch. When I was thinking of getting some western-type shots their ranch was the perfect choice. So, at the beginning of January Rebecca (the oldest Heckendorn gal) and I set out to take some pictures with Joshua (the oldest Heckendorn guy) as our guide. Our first stop was to see the cows.

This is Dolly, their milk cow.

She is such a nice cow. See how she's posing for us.

Meet their cat, licorice. He's such a funny cat.

See what I mean. I think he fancies himself a cowboy.

Now to the chickens. What strange and funny creatures they are.

You know how cats seem to think they are the masters? Well, that's centenary how this cat is. Rebecca went to snap some shots and licorice just jumped on her shoulder and sat there.

That is a rather handsome rooster. He has this green shimmer that's really cool. You can see it better in the picture below. The light wasn't shining on him just right and I wasn't able to capture it very well.

Quiet, the cat wants to speak. "Uh, a bug. How tasty."

"Even better, a bird!"

"I'm going to catch them by surprise." Pounce. "Ah, it's empty."

"Better luck in the spring, I guess. Now to get down."

"This certainly isn't as easy as getting up here."

The rest of these are just random things I liked. These were fun to take because I played with black and white a little. It really adds a cool effect. Sometimes, black and white works where color wouldn't, or at least no as well. I think that's the case with the second picture for sure.

I really enjoyed this photo shoot; It was a lot better than some others I have done. This was the first time I had ever gone out with anybody and now I totally prefer it. Besides, there was just something about the ranch, with it's animals and all, and these particular friends that made that time special. Now as I'm living in Roswell I am getting excited about getting my camera out and uncovering the bounty here within. As I go around campus especially I see stuff and go "that would make a nice picture. If I were to capture it in this way it would give this look". Now just to find the time. I'll see you all latter. It's time to get back to studying.
